In line with Our Mother of Good Counsel School's philosophy and mission, the school provides students with a strong academic program as well as an environment of faith, worship and stewardship. Throughout the school year students are given the opportunity to receive the Sacraments of Eucharist and Reconciliation.
Each class from second grade to eighth grade is in charge of planning a school Mass for the student body. The sponsoring class assigns lectors to proclaim the readings, prayer intentions to be offered and songs to celebrate the Mass. Parents are encouraged to join the student body in the celebration of these Masses so that we may prayer together as a school community.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated twice within the school year. From third to eighth grade, students have the opportunity to go to confession during the seasons of Advent and Lent in preparation of Christmas and Easter.
Sacramental preparation is done for students in the second grade and those students in the upper grades who have not yet received the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. First Confession takes place in December and First Holy Communion occurs in the month of April and May.
Parental involvement in the sacraments is expected by attending parent meetings before the reception of each sacrament and working with their child during the instruction. Parents are also asked to model the two sacraments so that students can appreciate their importance and help them have a deeper understanding of them.
